The Cabinet approves the Kingdom's accession to the membership of the International Agency for Research on Cancer

His Excellency The Minister of Health, Chairman of the Saudi Health Council. Thanks the leadership for the approval of the Council of Ministers for the Kingdom membership in the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Minister of Health, President of the Saudi Health Council, Mr. Fahd Bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalalil, thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and His Majesty God for the approval of the Council of Ministers for the admission of Saudi Arabia as a member of the International Agency for Research on Cancer at the World Health Organization (WHO).
We would also like to express our appreciation for the kind approval given to him, which reflects the support and interest he has given to the development of health-care services for citizens and residents of the Kingdom and to meet the challenge of cancer in various aspects of prevention, treatment and research.His Excellency added that the Kingdom ' s membership in the International Agency for Research on Cancer at the World Health Organization was an affirmation of its leading role in the programmes for the prevention of cancer in the Middle East, its impact on the regional and international environment and its potential and capacity to contribute to the development of specialized health research in the field of cancer.

His Excellency commended the Kingdom efforts in implementing national cancer prevention research projects and the role played by Saudi scientists and researchers in the drafting of international reports published by the Agency.

It is indicated that the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization (WHO) was established in 1965 to identify the causes of cancer and take preventive measures against it. The Agency coordinates and conducts epidemiological and laboratory research focusing on cancer. It aims to conduct and coordinate medical research on the causes of the disease, collect data on cancer infection and survival in various countries worldwide, publish international reports and produce a series of well-established research studies on the potential risk of cancer, as well as the publication of disaggregated periodic lists of carcinogens, potential carcinogens and non-carcinogenic substances.​
