Introduction:

Cancer is a health problem and a direct cause of death affecting thousands of Saudis and residents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a major reason for increasing the burden on health systems. Statistics recorded by the Saudi Cancer Registry indicate an increase in the number of cases annually. However, the numbers are still low compared to the rest of the world. Since the establishment of the first cancer treatment center in the Kingdom in 1355 AH corresponding to 1975 AD, health services for cancer patients have witnessed great improvements; making the kingdom one of the leading countries in providing specialized health care for cancer patients. This is reflected in the high survival and recovery rates for the most common types of cancer in the Kingdom.

Establishment:

The National Cancer Center was established based on the decision of His Excellency the Chairman of the Saudi Health Council and Minister of Health No. 71/3 dated 7/5/1437 AH corresponding to 26/02/2015 AD in accordance with Royal Decree No. 4015 dated 26/01/1436 AH, under the umbrella of the Saudi Health Council, regarding the establishment of national health centers.

The center supervises the Saudi Cancer Registry, which is considered one of the first national registries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which was established in 1412 AH / 1992 AD, providing statistical information to develop health and preventive services for cancer patients in the Kingdom. Twenty-three reports have been issued to date, and the following reports will be issued successively.

Vision:
That this center becomes a national scientific reference for combating cancer and reducing its harms.

Mission:

Developing national strategies to control cancer, combat its spread, monitor its developments, improve its comprehensive services, follow up on its treatment outcomes, care for research and development, and coordination between health sectors and parties related to cancer disease and patients.
